How's it Going?

I made the decision to homeschool Gibson for this year of preschool.  He is 3 and the only one at home.  He is socially adjusted and interested in learning.

It seemed like a natural (and easy!) decision.

The only thing that I didn't factor in is my lack of consistency.  I am spontaneous.  And a procrastinator.  And although I have a lot of great ideas, I have a hard time following through.

Many of you have asked how's it going?  I guess that the best answer for that is that it's going okay.

What we lack in consistency, we make up for in creativity!

As I ease into this homeschooling thing, we are following a simplistic format.  We have a letter and a color of the week.  We read lots of books.  We are learning new songs.  We do crafts.  We have a cooking class.  And we go on field trips.  (Did I mention naps?  We also do naps! :) ).

We are on our second week, so I don't have much to tell you.  But last week, we started with the letter "A" and the color red.

Making an "A" out of peanuts, M & M's and candy corn

Making "Amish White Bread"

Field trip to the Play Museum- meeting Diego!

Blessed with older sibling love!

My Spiderman- scaling walls!

All in all, we are having a great time.  I am learning more about myself- my need to be more disciplined, the importance of consistency, but also the FUN that we can have with our spontaneous creativity.

This week, we are learning the letter "B" and the color blue.

Thanks for asking!

  1. Cute! Love the spiderman pose! I have a hard enough time keeping my own self together - and that is debatable at times. Just have fun with it for now.

  2. He's doing exactly what 3 year olds should be doing!! Having fun and learning along the way. I think it's the BEST education possible: spending time with Mom, learning his ABC's and colors, and just feeding his natural curiosity. Sounds like a winner to me! :)

  3. Yes, no stress! Let it be fun and enjoyable and just do. I think a loose structure at any at this age is best.
